The title of this work stems from anthropologist Tim Ingold’s notion of the enwinded body: a body continuously formed through its relation with the air that surrounds it. To breathe is to participate to the world’s ongoing formation.

 

The enwinded body listens to its own crackling. It will deflate. With every breath it exhales itself into the air that others will breathe.

 

I delve into the orientating and unifying force of the wind. Wind brings us into relation with space and reveals it as something already within us. Wind, like breath, is the movement of air; through it we remain in communion.

 

I’m drawn to the moment breath becomes conscious: a voluntary gesture emerging from the involuntary labour of the lungs. To attend to breath is to voluntarily inhabit it, and to endlessly share.
