Thesis: Finding Fiona
'Autoloop' is an open-ended and suggestive exercise into what an object feels while being created. The installation consists of two disparate yet related forms: a life-size wax cast of a human body and a cluster of small machines flanking it. The weight of the wax cast in the space embodies both the painful processes of physical growth and the labour of creation, eventually functioning as a shed skin. The machines each have two protruding needles that pulse at altered rhythms of human heart rates, manifesting as sensing, non-utilitarian bodily extensions that exist, communicate and understand in relation to each other. Together, the works constitute an open ecosystem where actions and processes feed back into the confusion of a created false consciousness, born and taking its first steps.
