Thesis: Forming in the Trembling of Instants
Anemone is an installation consisting of a photograph printed on dibond and an mp3 player, by applying headphones and pressing the button on the mp3 player can listen to an ostinato (a short motif repeated persistently in the same pitch). Anemones are flowers that appear on the forest floor in early spring. They spread widely and in a pocket of time cover the ground in green and white, sometimes yellow and blue. Anemones come with one of the first movements of spring. The ostinato was improvised. It relates to Simone Weil's essay “What the Occitan Inspiration Consists Of” from 1942 and Lisa Robertson’s dissection of the essay in: “Anemones: A Simone Weil Project” from 2021 (published by If I Can’t Dance,). The texts talk about the Occitan troubadour culture and singing as a form of resistance. Weil relates to the Grimm fairy tale “The Six Swans” suggesting that power can only be attained with love and consent.
