Thesis: Latency
One afternoon in New York, I heard a thump. A sparrow had died. Six months later, I realized I had only seen the moment after. It made me think about what escapes us
—not the image, but the impulse of the fall that lingers.
I wonder how to write and paint. Both are ways of letting material process itself, allowing form to find its own logic and retrieve its own urge. Material becomes an axis of memory: the physicality of repression, surfacing as opaque ponds and quiet leaks.
Isabelle Bergmann (b. 2000) is a Turkish-Swiss artist living in Paris.
