Print Dinners

Lithographic limestone is reactive to oily and fatty acids that form the ink-attracting and water-repelling compound. If a drop of oleic acid is put on a prepared lithographic stone, and if the remaining portions of the stone are treated with a suitable water acid (modest etching gum), and if the stone is then dampened with clean water, and the inking roller passed over it, the roller will only deposit ink on the oleates. The remaining portions of the stone, as long as they remain wet, repels the ink. This process is the fundamental principle upon which planography is based. This print is the result of a greasy dinner in the Grafiek workshop in Rietveld academie.
