The Shape of Temptation is a visual poem about a burdened creature, trying to be strong but ultimately vulnerable and sensitive. Corrupt, temporary and itching remedies come to the screen when the moon strikes twelve, and the path turns into a fatamorgana, not clear and not guaranteed. We can smell the magic but we cannot hold it, at least not yet. Even if it’s intangible, we must believe in it. It’s around the corner, we just have to be patient and persistent and the growl of victory will come.
About the artists:
Patricia Werneck Ribas (BR/NL) graduated from the VAV-moving image department in 2014. Her research explores questions of identity and power relations in postcolonial contexts. Her practice emerges from a process of unlearning dominant worldviews, examining how prevailing narratives have silenced other forms of knowledge.
Working primarily with lens-based media, she creates films, installations, and photographs that suggest and evoke rather than proclaim. Her work navigates memory, time, and place, inviting viewers to imagine themselves in the position of the other while revealing how personal narratives intersect with broader political and social concerns.
The curatorial team this season are Luca Deutinger (DOGtime Expanded Painting), Taša Grujić (VAV), Herkules Jansson (VAV), Netta Simola (VAV).
