Rietveld Uncut 2026
Rietveld Uncut is an annual exhibition and performance programme from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Its collaboration with Studium Generale Rietveld Academie culminates in a simultaneous conference week and exhibition in which ‘the making and the thinking’ come together.
In relation to the Studium Generale theme of loVe making — love as a creative act and site of resistance, students from all departments have been developing work over the past few months. They have explored the theme from a variety of perspectives, including ecology, celebration, collectivity and care. Twenty-two projects show interpretations of the theme, varying from an installation commenting on contemporary masculinity, to a textile project that grew out of a friendship with a young Palestinian living in the Gaza Strip; from a video work about legal authorities questioning the authenticity of a relationship, to installations exploring love through the lens of grief or friendship.
Rietveld Uncut will be on show from 18 until 22 March, and on Friday 20 March from 18:30 to 21:30, the exhibition will be activated with a programme of performances and interventions. Special guest of the evening will be Alyson Sillon. Her multi-sensory work Before/After, explores the contemporary world of techno, confronting its Black and queer origins through historical, embodied, and ritual research.
