In both the Orientation Course and the Preparatory Course, you will come to the academy to create and discuss visual work with your tutors. You will take part in introductions to the general workshops, go on field trips and learn to reflect on your working process. You will build up a portfolio and experience the Rietveld Academie first hand through various assignments, which are in line with the nature of education at the academy. Both courses last 25 weeks. Which of the two preliminary courses to take mainly depends on your goal, your age and how much time you have per week.
The Orientation Course is an introduction. During the Orientation Course, you can explore whether studying art and design is for you, by making and discussing. Classes are held on Saturday afternoons. Students are aged between 16 and 50 and come from a wide range of backgrounds – which is what makes this course so special.
