Illusion
Single-channel video installation, stop-motion animation, sound, 3:03, in a loop
The stop-motion animation centres on a person who decides to flee their country at a sudden historical turning point, opening onto questions of landscape, memory and forced movement. It asks what a place remembers and what remains concealed behind a landscape that appears peaceful, which untold tragedies are buried there. At the same time, it speaks to the present: when someone today runs across — or away from — these open spaces, do they know what they are running towards or from, and are they choosing their own trajectory or following paths laid down by the decisions of others?
