Thesis: Writing this as a screenplay is like slipping the text into costume 

I see dressing as a performative act that shapes how identity moves and is being perceived. People around me appear as costumed characters; their clothing reveals their own quiet costume. Garments become spaces where identity can momentarily be tried on or escaped.  

I am drawn to fragile aged materials, such as fabrics and paper; I feel a need to preserve their overlooked beauty. By transforming discarded archival fragments, I attempt to question what we consider valuable and beautiful. These fabrics and nineteenth-century letters, receipts, and checks are being preserved into (archival) garments allowing them to take on a new presence, almost as if they themselves are costumed. Creating room for escape to move beyond fixed histories, I wish to grant access to a reality that feels softer more navigable.
