My parents run a plant shop where i spent a lot of time growing up.
There tropical plants stand next to temperate ones, where a poppy can meet a cycad.
This five meters long canva is a growing garden.
Made with the Bunka Shishu technique, embroided stitch by stitch, for a long, almost organic time.
Like a plant which slowly grows, each flower appears progressively, each pattern takes root in a repetitive and precise gesture. The work cumulates hundred of thousand of stitches, making visible within the material the time needed for it to come into being.
Therefor, this slow process, claims a kind of craftsmanship in which the hand engage the body in a timescale opposed to the culture of immediacy, where production is pushed to accelerate.
The plants here are not part of a naturalist garden.
