Thesis: Faddy Images and Thoughts

The works presented in this graduation show are oil paintings that have been intervened upon through a laser-cutting process. By burning through the layers of oil paint, the laser exposes the painting’s underlying structure, the raw canvas. The resulting woven surfaces create a shifting space, where foreground and background oscillate, allowing form to emerge through acts of removal rather than addition. This exploration of surface extends into the imagery depicted, fashionable scenarios that examine the role of garments, appearance and patterns. The works are a negociation between concealment and exposure, absence and presence, painting and image.
