Thesis: BACK ON FRONT OFF

The architectural design department’s graduation spaces are located in four rooms on the third floor of the Rietveld building’s south-east side. Room 317 is adjacent to the building’s mechanical room, which houses parts of the HVAC system and electrical infrastructure. Due to the HVAC system this room can be understood as the lungs of the building which besides other functions, constantly circulates and exchanges “used” with “clean” air. This machinery creates a never-ending white noise that can be perceived as the breath of the building. The humming that allows the inhabitants to create other sounds and sonics within the building. Laughs, words, screams, footsteps, sighs, etc.
