A compound of information throughout the process of exploring, changing, shedding, weighing, harvesting, learning, growing.
This is form. This is skin. This is information.
“a being investigates, accumulates - oh well” is an installation that explores the density of information we are surrounded with. The work focuses on a multitude of life cycles. It brings about notions of sociopolitical environmental issues. A catalyst, mourning the current state of the world. The artist draws on apocalyptic philosophies, the anthropocene, eco-feminism and necropolitics. It takes shape through the relationships between objects in space and in view of the audience. As a starting point, it departs thinking of the larva as a metaphor for collecting data - growing, feeding, becoming.
The butterfly cannot grow but larva does immensely, from when the egg gets hatched until it becomes a pupa, in which the growth and change happen only on the inside: invisible to the naked eye. We often focus on the beauty of the butterfly not realising how as humans, we tend to forget the importance of the larva eating, growing and prepping to arrive to the final stage of it’s life.
In the same way as the butterfly goes through transformative cycles, there are many life spans within this work, many roads it can take indicating that the current installation shown will transform and become something else when exposed and interacted with next time. A new space, a new audience or a new headspace, a new conversation.
As an artist, ida-simone considers this an act of community, care, and reflection on ramifications of actions and interactions with matter.
