Thesis: It Seams Eroticized
When did we start accepting the
sexualization of women’s bodies in gym wear?
Female gym wear is more naked and free than ever, yet it restricts and controls women by accentuating body parts sexualized through the Western heterosexual male gaze. The clothes have shifted to a place where body autonomy and sexual objectification collide. My designs disrupt the cliché hourglass and exchange it for disbalance through asymmetry and the upcycling of existing gym wear. Using fuck-ups, humour, and errors, I wish to challenge these norms, moving through
confusion so that awareness can emerge. By desexualizing these shapes, Buttscrunched
aims at rejecting that gaze and reclaiming our bodies.
