Thesis: Interventions

High visibility orange clothing with reflective elements marks a form of authority within public space. If you're wearing it, people assume that you must know what you're doing. Which doesn't guarantee that what you are doing is permitted. By assuming this uniform of legibility, I have taken the freedom to carry out interventions in public space.

The work documents five interventions conducted in public space within the last months, in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. These interventions subvert the design choices that the municipality makes in public space. The installation harbours the objects and uniforms necessary for those interventions. It considers design as a tool to materialise credible bottom-up ideas that question who public space belongs to and to what extent we can decide for ourselves how we organize that space.
