The Dimensions of a Wall

‘The Dimensions of a Wall’ calls for a re-evaluation of the way in which architectural elements, creating the spaces we inhabit, are interpreted. The concept for the work emerged during a trip into an alternative universe, commonly referred to as Japan. This trip became the starting point for research into the origins of western architecture, the development of our understanding of the cosmos, the influence of language on our consciousness, and the Japanese translations of the word ‘space’.

The work, as it is presented, has taken the shape of the exhibition space itself. By cutting through the carefully crafted two-dimensional plane that constitutes a wall, a sensation of tension and time are left to seep through. In this way the work intends to question the static and inert condition of our living environment.
